How do I incorporate it into my classroom?

There are many ways you can incorporate EditMentor into your classroom. Two of the most common approaches that teachers have shared with us are:

Flipped Classroom/Homework Assignment

Teaching with Student at Computer

Have the students complete an EditMentor lesson as a homework assignment. This approach allows students to complete the lessons on their own time. This also allows for more hands-on learning during class time to practice what they’ve learned in EditMentor. They will need access to the Internet and a computer at home, or a computer lab after class.

Direct Instruction in the Classroom

Some educators have found success by having the entire class go through an EditMentor lesson together as a class. Working together on challenges opens up the door to class discussions on the lesson topic, as well as having the teacher close by to answer student questions.

But no matter the approach, our hope is that EditMentor can be part of a blended learning method. We see this as an opportunity for student to take the concepts gained within EditMentor and bring them to life allowing students the opportunity to get hands-on experience bringing their visual stories to life using the concepts they’ve learned within EditMentor.

Teacher Resources

Here are a few of the key guides that help get teachers started right away with EditMentor:

Creating Student Accounts
Importing Curriculum

But we’ve created even more resources that we feel are beneficial to all educators using EditMentor:

Implementation Guide

Our detailed Implementation Guide includes step-by-step instructions from curriculum breakdowns, setting up your account, inviting students, inviting other teachers, reviewing grades, FAQ, and more! It is easily downloadable and/or printable to help you get started right away.

Teacher Guides

Our Teacher Guides provide a roadmap for educators to confidently introduce film, video, and media concepts to students, regardless of their experience level in the subject. The main goal is to give teachers a preview of each lesson as they prepare their lesson plans and oversee students throughout the EditMentor curriculum.

Each guide includes lesson learning objectives, a list of key terms, discussion topics, suggested extension activities, worksheets, and more!

Available Teacher Guides:

All teacher guides are built within Google Docs, which includes the ability to download the file in various formats such as Microsoft Word, Rich Text Format, PDF, and more. Once downloaded, teacher’s can adjust the document to best fit their specific classroom.

Authentic Assignments

We also offer a three-part class assignment that correlates with our Advanced Film Editing Workshop with Stephen Mark, A.C.E.. Once students complete the lessons within EditMentor, we want the learning to continue.

The class assignments focus on the short film, Authentic, which is the main film used throughout our Advanced Film Editing Workshop course. The film is a Tribeca audience award-winning short that is now streaming on HBO.

The documents are hosted on Google Drive, giving you ability to download the files and adjust for your classroom needs.

These class assignments are great for upperclass high school students, as well as college students. And you can adjust each assignment for your specific class and their skill level.

Help Articles

In addition, we have an extensive collection of Help Articles, with dozens of step-by-step tutorials, definitions and explanations, to assist teachers and students. The Orange Chat Icon in the bottom right corner of EditMentor quickly links you to all our Help Articles.

We also include related help articles within each Teacher Guide and throughout every lesson within EditMentor.

Tutorial Videos

Many of our help articles also include tutorial videos from our Youtube page. Our tutorial videos range from setting up your account to showing how to answer specific challenge types.
